Ryan was a member of the UIC Mock Trial Team for three consecutive years. Prior to college, Ryan participated on his High School Speech Team in the categories of Humorous Interpretation, Humorous Duet Acting, Impromptu Speaking, Radio, and Dramatic Duet Acting.

For the last two years he has served as co-captain of teams 348 and 349.  He has played the role of both attorney and witness, portraying a defense attorney, plaintiff attorney, along with Det. Donny Walsh and Det. Trinidad Martinez, Cory Drake, and Chief Julian Polson.  Ryan received an All-American Attorney award in 2007 at the National Championship Tournament as a plaintiff attorney.

Ryan will graduate this coming spring with a degree in Philosophy and Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology.  He ultimately will attend law school possibly next fall.
